e-POWER is a 100% electric motor-driven system from Nissan that gives you the same high-performance driving experience as an all-electric car. It uses the EV technology perfected in the Nissan LEAF and adds an efficient, petrol engine to charge the lightweight, lithium-ion battery pack when necessary.
With precise electric motor control at fractions of a second, e-POWER delivers powerful and smooth acceleration when you need it. The electric motor’s instant torque output and acceleration performance helps you stay ahead of traffic.
In high power demand situations, such as strong acceleration when entering a freeway, the petrol engine and generator are used to keep the battery pack charged and can directly power the electric motor.
e-POWER allows you to accelerate and decelerate your car using only the accelerator pedal – pushing down to speed up and easing off to slow down*. This can happen at a rate 3 times as fast as typical engine braking.
e-POWER makes driving in slow moving traffic easier and less stressful. It also lets you fully enjoy a spirited run on your favourite mountain road. As the vehicle is decelerating, regenerative braking charges the battery pack.
Due to the vehicle being powered by a battery pack, the e-POWER system is quieter than a traditional Petrol-powered car. The system’s petrol engine charges the battery pack mainly at higher cruising speeds, when road noise helps mask its sound.
For maximum fuel efficiency, the on-board petrol engine runs at optimal speed to charge the battery pack when needed.
TECHNOLOGY PERFECTED TO TRANSFORM YOUR JOURNEY
e-POWER was first introduced in Japan in 2016 with the Nissan Note. At its core is the same 100% electric motor-driven technology used in the Nissan LEAF to deliver instant torque, power, efficiency and excitement.
In high power demand situations, such as strong acceleration when entering a freeway, the petrol engine and generator are used to keep the battery pack charged and can directly power the electric motor.
Nissan’s e-POWER system includes a petrol engine with a power generator, inverter, battery and an electric motor. The electric motor delivers power directly to the wheels, using energy stored in the battery pack. Used for charging the battery pack or powering the electric motor, the petrol engine eliminates the need for an EV charger.
* e-POWER offers drivers the ability to accelerate or slow down the vehicle to a low crawl speed using only the accelerator pedal. The driver needs to operate the brake pedal to come to a complete stop.
